Iowa Falls

I would like to tell you about one of my favorite places to visit and also places to eat that are not a chain of restaurants. Sometimes a vacation can be in the most out of the way place and can be the most fun.

That is why vacationing in Iowa Falls, IA is a great place to stay. Iowa Fall has several historical sights. After you get a great motel room to stay, near the shopping center south of town, you will want to visit the Princess Café. It was founded nearly 100 years ago by a Greek family who made their own wonderful chocolates. They carried on this tradition for a great many years along with an unbelievably huge menu of food items, all home cooking.

In addition, the Red Rooster Café has been in business for over 50 years or more and you can go in anytime and get the best homemade pie. Their coconut cream pie and banana cream pie are piled high with homemade meringue. Hot beef is a specialty, along with soup and sandwiches and other special hot dishes at noon, all made from scratch. And for the best hamburger or vegetable burger, it just can't be beat.

For luxury dining on a budget, you will want to visit Camp David on the riverside where you can dine at 2 levels. You can eat outside right on the river's edge along the side of the cliff or you can eat inside where they serve huge portions of homemade food and you can see the cliffs and river from your seat inside. Then you can climb up to the small tower and look out over the town and river and enjoy the view.

The Met Theater has been completely restored to its original condition of over 70 years ago. Take in a show or two while you are there. Shop the many shops and antique stores too. And be sure and take in the new water park they have now also.

The Princess--Sweet Shop is located at 607 Washington Ave., in Iowa Falls. Still a cafe and ice cream parlor, it is open from 11:00am to 2:00pm and again for dinner at 4:00pm Monday-Saturday.
